Cabanas de Tavira

Cabanas de Tavira is a former fisherman's village 5 miles east of Tavira and 28 miles from Faro, where the international airport is located. The village has no high-rise buildings, the boardwalk and boulevard with it's numerous little bars, restaurants and shops are locoted at the lagoon, part of the Ria Formosa National Park.

The Ria Formosa Natural Park is one of the most amazing places in he Algarve, not only for it's variety of landscapes but also because of its unique location. This is a unique coastal lagoon which is constantly changing due to the continuous movement of winds, currents and tides. It stretches from Faro all the way to Manta Rota and comprises about 18.000 ha.

Praia de Cabanas

The beach of Cabanas is located on an island (Ilha de Cabanas) in front of the lagoon and village. Small taxiboats will bring you to the other side of the lagoon. Behind the dunes is a wide beach with a length of almost 5 miles. On the beach there's a restaurant, beachbar, toilet and shower facilities.


Except for the Cabanas Beach there are many beautiful beaches nearby, e.g. the beach on Tavira Island and the beach of Praia do Cabeco. Tavira (5 mls) is also worth a visit. In this old town with it's Moorish and Roman influences you'll fancy long passed times. If you rent a car there are a lot of places you can visit. Besides the opportunity to explore the beautiful Algarve, a visit to Spain is just 15 miles away. Recommended cities to visit are Sevilla (100 mls) and Lisbon (180 mls.
